How Soon Can I Get My Bathtub Refinishing Done?

Enjoying the summer holidays with loved ones painting

As the summer holidays draw closer and family starts making plans to visit, you may be wondering if there is still time for bathtub refinishing to renew that old, dingy, and/ or dirty looking bathtub, especially if you know they will be needing to use it. If you have guests coming over, your bathroom is definitely going to be used. Everyone wants to use a clean bathroom and a dirty looking bathtub could make for a less enjoyable experience. The problem is, a lot of times older bathtubs, no matter how much you clean them, just appear dirty, even when they aren’t. That is where bathtub refinishing can be your friend.

If you aren’t familiar with the idea of refinishing a bathtub, it is a process in which a new coating, similar to paint, is sprayed onto the surface of your bathtub. For a more detailed look at the process of refinishing read here. A professional bath refinisher can update your bathroom with a brand new resurfaced coating leaving your bathtub looking and feeling shiny, clean, and fresh. You can choose a traditional fresh clean white or be unique and go with a custom color. Check out these amazing before and after photos here. Either way, you and your guests will enjoy the fresh clean look refinishing gives to your bathtub.

So the question is, is there still time to get my bathtub refinished before the holidays? The answer is yes!  The process only takes a few hours for our professional bath refinisher to prep and spray your bathtub or shower. However, keep in mind you will need a minimum of 24 to 48 hours for the coating to fully cure. In most cases, you are free to take a shower in your newly refinished bathtub in 24 hours and take a bubble bath after 48 hours.

You may be thinking, “do I really need a professional refinisher to do this, when it is just tub painting? Can’t I just buy a kit and do it myself?”

DIY refinishing kit on tile failure

The answer to this is, that while it is possible to buy a kit, there is a reason there are professional bath refinishers. Professional tub reglazers use commercially purchased materials which have a higher quality than you can buy at your local hardware store, not to mention their specially designed equipment. The professional bath refinishers have years of daily experience properly cleaning, prepping and spraying bathtubs, tile, and showers. And most importantly, a DIY kit will not only take twice as long or more for a DIY’er to do the job, the coating will start to fail in less than a year leaving you with a peeling uneven look for next year. And guess what, if you call a professional then, you will have to pay for them to remove that prior coating before refinishing your bathtub the right way.
